NOT SO BELOVED BIOTIN

While I've experienced success from using biotin, it reaks havoc on my skin so I've reduce the dosage. I was taking two a day versus the recommended dose of one. I'm kind of scared to use it at all considering the fact that I've never had bad skin. It freaked me out when I saw the bumps on my face, like majorly! I will test it out to see if the reducing the dosage works for me, if not, I will discontinue. I'd rather have great skin than a head full of flowing hair :)

Hair obsession

I'm realizing that I pay a lot of attention to my hair. I'm always looking in the mirror at it, touching it, wishing it were at the length I want it to be. Hair is a focus of mine, even if it's not my own, I am constantly on website surrounding hair, ie., curlynikki.com, naturalsunshine.ning.com, nappturality.com, motowngirl.com and here lately a myriad of hair blogs. I am a hair junky! HOWEVER, I am reaching a point of frustration of my own. Although my hair has grown "some" since the onset of this blog, I am disappointed that I've not gained more length than I have. Some would say focus on the health of it and all will follow, and I myself have even said that, but when I see styles I want to do but don't have the hair for it, I do become frustrated. Anywho, I've been doing styles that I like on the length I have so I will post pics below. Enjoy :)

I found my Eco Syler Gel

I am so stoked because I found the gel I'd been looking for and it was right under my nose at the local beauty supply store. Not even a mile up the street from where I live. It worked wonders, and I also went through a bottle of biotin so I had to purchase another one. I actually am not a big fan of taking vitamins, but with this vitamin I noticed results after about a month in a half so I am sold.

On The Hunt!

I am desperately trying to find this most coveted gel, Eco Styler Gel. Natural websites, and naturals all over youtube have rave reviews about this product and its ability to define curls, and I have not been able to find it here in my city. I am going on the prowl this weekend and hopefully will have some luck. I tried Walgreens, but to no avail. Fingers are crossed.... wish me luck.

Past My Ears, Please!!!

I don't know if it is mental or not, but e'ry time I get a damn trim it seems as if I got a major hair cut. I know daggone well I didn't cut that much off my ends. My hair is not like it was last week, and I am sad!!!! I want my hair to sprout out of my scalp like bean sprouts!!!!!! This is extremely frustrating, and I have never been disappointed in my hair at all. I have just embraced it, but the nappy truth is, I need a solution. I watch youtube videos of women after their first year, and it is comparison to a person who has been growing their hair for years. I am not looking for hair to flow down my back just past my ears.... GROW PLEASE & Thank you!!!!

Trimmed, dusted, clipped whatever!

Saturday, I bit the bullet and went ahead and clipped my ends. It was not a major difference, just a snippet. Either way, I think it's better for my hair if I keep my ends in top notch shape. After all, my goal is growth retention and just like Malcolm X says, "By Any Means Necessary." I am willing to do what it takes to have at least three more inches of hair by December. I washed with Frutis Garnier adding baking soda as a clarifier & also deep conditioned with egg & mayo. I rinsed with cold water moisturized with a mix of shea butter and aloe and then I defined my curls with aloe vera gel. I am currently in search of the coveted Eco Styler Gel.

Beloved Frohawk

I have always coveted this style on others, and am so glad that I am able to do a mini hawk. I have been so bad to my hair these few days. It seems when my boyfriend is staying over, I forget all sense of being, LOL!!! I got it bad and I know it... anyway, I am sorry hair, LOVE YOU!!!!!

Condition

I conditioned with egg on Saturday and my hair is so shiny!!!!!

nappy chameleon

The following hairstyles are not months apart but rather a day apart from each other, Saturday- Wash n GO (shrunken) Sunday- Fro and Monday- twist out.

By looking at the first picture, one would think I did a big chop, but it is simply washed with a little oil rubbed through it. The following day I felt liberated and wanted to wear my fro! Boy did I turn heads and cause a bit of curiosity. I had gone in to Wal-Mart the day before with my very shrunken fro and the following day I had to go back to Wal-Mart, yeah I know, I have no life..... but this time I was rocking the fro. Ironically, the same guy checked me out the day before. The lady behind me was just in awe of my hair and the guy at the check out was like that is not her hair!!! I had to allow this negro to do a scalp check. He was just like man, that is neat, how did you get your hair to do that. I told him that was the beauty in our hair. It simply can do whatever we want it to do. It got me to thinking about WHY women relax their hair versus keeping it natural. Yes, it is a choice, but the choice doesn't make sense to me. By being natural I can simply wear it in its natural state, I can fro it, I can straighten it if I choose to, I can do twist outs, braid outs, coils, coil outs, fro-hawks, flat twists and a myriad of other styles. To me, you minimize your choices when you relax your hair It will only be straight unless you get a weave! Why not keep it nappy and be that chameleon that keeps folks wondering how did you do that?!

Recent Pics

Slow progress, but progress nonetheless!

Okay, so I blew my hair out this morning on low heat of course, and I was shocked and in awe myself of the growth. One of my co-workers said that she loved it and how big it was getting... She is one of those white girls who wished she was black and had a fro! Dontcha just love that :) Anyway, I am going on my trip the Whole Food Market today to get some much needed products for my hair!!! I love it and love that even though I have slacked on my routine, my hair is still on the grow.

OH for the love of my hair!!!

I struggle with consistency in the area of my hair and notice immediately when I start slacking off my routine. I am trying so hard to stay on top of my water intake as I know healthy hair starts with what I put into my body and of course, my diet... help me father. Anyway, I am going tomorrow to get more Shea Butter because I am out and also some vitamins to help assist me on my journey to healthier and longer strands.... I haven't been updating because of other things preoccupying my time, but my hair is always on my mind. I am wearing it in a coil out right now. It is funny because everyone thinks my hair is cut, but when I stretch it out, they are like wow. Love the shock and awe!

Water Shortage

I am ashamed to admit it, but I have not had water in almost three days; I know shoot me now. I have been drinking juice, and sodas and my hair is not happy at all. It has become dry and is actually popping :( I refuse to go back to old habits if it is something I can control. Today I am going on a water binge!!!!!!!

Noticeable Progress

I am so proud of my consistency these last few months. It's definitely paid off and not only do I see progress, but others see it as well. I've received lot of comments regarding growth and thickness of my tresses. My next thing is removing all commercial products and replacing them with natural products and also, finding those staple products that work and sticking to them. I have stayed on my vitamin regimine and it is also showing to be a positive change. I am so excited too because I know by December of this year, I will have reached my hair goal. I used regular cocoa butter on my hair this morning and I want to incorporate that into my hair, but want to make sure it doesn't have any negative effects. It is for the skin, but I don't see why I can't use it on my hair. I need to update frequently.

Update (April)

I've not updated in a while, but I've not stopped taking care of my hair. It is growing; I am experimenting with more styles. Right now I am sporting two strand twist. I wasn't comfortable with wearing them before due to "scalpiness." However, I more dedicated to the health and growth of my hair and know protective styling is necessary. Really don't have the money for extensions nor do I really want them. Below is a few pictures.

A month Later....

I've not been as dedicated to this blog as I have been to my hair. I've still been taking care of my hair as promised, and the results have been unmatched. It has a natural sheen to it, and there is hardly not breakage. I can attribute this to me wrapping my hair up nightly, using the wild growth hair oil and doo grow oil, and also washing weekly, or co washing rather. Last weekend I did a deep condition with Cholesterol Olive Oil conditioner, mixed in egg, mayo and olive oil... my hair thanked me. I also bought shea butter too :) Here are some updated pics below.

wild growth oil --weekly update

I've been using it for a week consistently and I've been reading information regarding this product online as well. What I've noticed by using it for a week is that it does keep my hair well moisturized. It's too soon to know if it in fact does speed growth or not. I will say that if the hair is kept well moisturzied, which this products helps with, it will reduce breakage. I have noticed this week alone that my hair has less breakage. I will continue using this product for that reason alone. Any extra growth is a bonus.... I will report back in a couple of weeks.

Wild Hair Growth Oil

Yay, noticing some growth and I am very excited. I supposed the supplements are finally kicking in :) Also, my mom has been telling me to get some wild growth hair oil for months and use it. I've bought some in the past but never used it on a consistent basis, so I am trying it again. I purchased some last night and oiled my scalp with it. I will try to use three times a week as it doesn't take that much due to the potency. I will report back in a couple of weeks with pictures as to growth... :) Happy growing.

Growth? Looks like!

So, I've been taking my vitamins, hitting and missing, but for the most part, I've taken them and I can see some results. I do see more growth. The only thing I need to commit to is wearing a satin cap at night because the back of my hair doesn't like cotton at all! I wake up and it is as dry as a powder house and probably the reason for the stunted growth. I am going to dedicate to sleeping with protection. See pics below.
